Garmu & Salt Dog -- The Golden Bird
butterflies

Garmu and Salt Dog lived in the mountains where there was a lot of snow — it piled up here and there.  It was cold where they lived and the snow squeeked when they walked on it.  Sometimes it blew around and then they got covered with snow.

Salt Dog was not really a dog but was more like a small brown bear with blue hands and feet.  He could not figure out why his hands and feet were blue — but he accepted this as he could not do any thing to change their color — but he worn big boots and huge gloves.  He believed that this made him look normal.  Actually the boots and gloves made him look a little funny.

Garmu tolerated Salt Dog — they lilked where they lived because there was chocolate everywhere — but you had to dig for it in the snow to get it.  Digging for chocolate was their favorite pastime.
Chocolate
Every batch of chocolate that they found tasted different. Some pieces were very sweet and some were almost bitter.  The best ones were crunchy — but all of them tasted great.  The chocolate was always wrapped in orange colored paper.

One day when they were digging into the snow, they found a great cave — and it was lined with many types of chocolate.  In the cave they found something very special — a very fat bird that could speak.  It’ had many different colored feathers.   At first however, the bird said nothing and just looked at them.  Finally, the fat bird spoke and said “I am the true chocolate bird — my name is West Penny”.

Garmu and Salt Dog were surprised but after awhile, they started eating the chocolate — and decided that the fat bird named West Penny could call himself whatever he wanted.  Then something special happened — they opened up a package expecting to find chocolate but instead they found a small golden bird and it was very heavy.  They stared at it for a long time and kept handing it back and forth to each other.  The golden bird had green eyes made of emeralds and the bird shimmered all over with different colors.

Finally, Salt Dog asked West Penny — what is this golden bird?  “Ah”, said West Penny “I am just a true chocolate bird — but this is a magic chocolate bird”.  “Hold it one hand and close your eyes and make a wish”.  Salt Dog gave the golden bird to Garmu who held it in one hand and closed his eyes.  Garmu then took a deep breath and thought about a warm fire and cozy blankets — he wished that he was really warm and comfortable.

Amazingly, both Salt Dog and Garmu found themselves sitting in front a very nice hot stove and they both were wrapped in warm blankets.  This happened so fast, they could hardly believe it.  Even better, there were piles of chocolate everywhere — each piece was a different shape — and all were wrapped in orange colored paper.

So — Salt Dog and Garmu ate a lot of chocolate and then fell fast asleep.  Garmu still had the golden bird in his hand when he fell asleep, but when he woke up later, it was gone.
